Laufey blends timeless themes with nostalgic musical stylings just in ‘time’
Laufey found herself immersed in the spotlight in the peak of 2023 after the release of her album Bewitched, Releasing the deluxe version shortly after only added fuel to her global popularity.

Universally known for “From the Start,” which reached 825 million streams and a peak of No. 21 on Spotify’s daily charts, Laufey uses a unique mix of bossa nova music combined with creative lyrics. She’s now under an even brighter spotlight from her “From the Start” remix that had a catchy tone and dance that blew up on TikTok.
After Bewitched hit 5.7 million streams as of September, her album introduced her audience to Laufey’s romantic jazz, bringing her bright and angelic vocals to the top of the charts. This would be only the beginning, however.
Laufey’s teasers in the summer of 2025 greatly marketed her newest album release for “Lauvers,” the name given to the singer’s fans. Released on Friday, August 22, Laufey’s A Matter of Time reached 12 million first-day streams on Spotify, and four million streams daily.
Soon after, she announced a tour stretching from September 15 in Orlando to March 24 in Iceland, bringing herself back to the roots of her musical career.
A Matter of Time has officially released as her third studio produced album, but prior to releasing her full album, the tracks “Silver Lining” and “Tough Luck” had made their first presence in the musical pool. As these songs reached social media platforms, such as TikTok and Instagram, Laufey’s album lured in listeners to highlight the world of friendships and heartbreak.
In her romantic way, Laufey blesses her music with meaningful lyrics while bringing classical, jazz, and pop elements into the modern musical era. Her work compares favorably to other traditional jazz artists such as Samara Joy, popular for her song “Warm in December,” and Canadian artist Diana Krall, renowned for her album When I Look in Your Eyes. Laufey sticks out due to the incredible works of her music mixing in multiple genres and musical elements into her songs.
The highlight of each of her tracks is its story and lyrics conducting its own magical world. Listening to it feels like being in a heartbreaking fairy tale filled with relaxing and soft music in the background, all while producing a sense of nostalgia that looks back into past memories from the perspective of a heartbroken individual.
“Forget-Me-Not” surprised fans with Icelandic singing while building its emotional trance, making the track unique and heartfelt as Laufey expresses herself as a Chinese Icelandic artist. “Sabotage” includes the screeching chords of an orchestra detailing the music's title into her song, in comparison to her mellow harmony.
Today, not many well known artists have produced an album or single with jazz and classical elements, but somehow Laufey brings back that nostalgia into contemporary radio. She goes above and beyond to promote her brand, create her music, and write lyrics that deeply resonate with Lauvers.
So far, Laufey has been exposed to a different type of rap style in a “jazzy” way, but what else is there that she can do to change the way her music is produced? One thing for sure is that Laufey has definitely made her musical identity clear through her production of modern jazz and classical works.
Overall, A Matter of Time has created a beautiful story and opened many minds to life’s wonders and hardships. Laufey has displayed these key factors in her album wonderfully by craftily developing a heartfelt, personal story that explores the complexities and anxieties of falling in love within modern times.
